The Cities of Waukee and West Des Moines, in coordination with the Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), are proposing to construct an interchange on Interstate 80 (I-80) in Dallas County, Iowa. There is currently only a grade separation at this location. Two of the major requirements for new connections are an Interchange Justification Report (IJR) and the appropriate level of documentation for compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
Purpose for the Proposed Action
The purpose of the proposed action is to provide safe and efficient access to I-80 from Alice’s Road and 105th Street.
Need for the Proposed Action
The need for the proposed action is supported by the following factors:
- Economic development and growth in the Des Moines metropolitan area;
- Traffic operations and safety;
- Regional travel mobility; and
- Planned local arterial street improvements on the regional network.
